Description
Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). Donna Lou is an approximate 3-year-old, 25 lb., possible Cattle Dog/Heeler mix. She is a sweetheart! She is house trained, good with other dogs, has met a cat and done well, is good on a leash, and is good with kids. She spends hours chasing birds in the bushes in her fenced yard every day. Donna came from Oklahoma where she was dumped at a truck stop. We don't know her history prior to coming into our rescue other than she gave birth to at least 3 puppies that came with her. They have long been adopted. Donna would do best in a single-family home with a fenced yard so she can chase the birds and have room to play with her toys. She uses a doggie door to let herself in and out. If you are interested in meeting Donna Lou Who, please complete an online application at hopeanimalrescueofiowa.duplie/forms/196/dog-application Adoption fee is $250 which includes spay/neuter, microchip, and age appropriate vaccines.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
