Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet August! This sweet lil’ guy was born in rescue on May 12, 2025. His mom was saved from euthanasia by NDLB and gave birth shortly after arriving at her foster home, August being one of her puppies and the only one in the litter born deaf! His beautiful coat is getting more and more spots as he grows, too, which is so cute. He’s learning hand signals for commands (which our hearing resident dogs also know, so that’s helpful) and picking it up very quickly. August is a smart puppy, has fun exploring and taking in all the smells, loves to chew on everything outside right now, too. He has learned where our raspberry patch is and always sits politely, waiting for you to pick some berries for him! He has so much fun playing with our resident dog (the other isn’t as friendly), chewing bones and his stuffed toys, as well as hopping around and retrieving toys that we throw down the hallway for him! He’s such a joy and a big, big snuggle bug. August’s favorite place to take a nap is either on your lap or curled-up right next to you. At night he sleeps in bed with us, as he isn’t a huge fan of his kennel. He will let you know he’s not happy when he’s in there, though often quiets down after a bit, settling in for a nap or chewing his bone. He’s learning about car rides and, as he’s in a kennel, isn’t super happy about it at first, but gets comfy and is figuring out that they’re not so bad. He’s picking-up on potty training really well! He knows what to do outside (we also have a hand signal for outside/potty and poop) and gets his jobs done, while also exploring a bit and taking in smells as he’s outside. August is the sweetest little guy, so cuddly and is able to entertain himself, also has a small puppy bed that he knows is his and can often be found in it while we’re having coffee, making dinner, working, etc. He has learned that food is in the kitchen and adores getting a tiny chunk of whatever veggie or fruit you might be chopping. He sits so politely, including to put his leash on before we go outside, and also quite enjoys sunbathing, either inside or out on the deck! August will definitely benefit from continued training, also helping to bond with his new parent(s), and structure, he adapts really well and quickly to change in environment. He’s looking for his family that wants to learn together, snuggle and cuddle forever! Could it be you? Come meet him today! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $625.00

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
