Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Travis is a laid-back terrier/chi mix born at the end of July, with the sweetest disposition you could hope for. He loves nothing more than snuggling up and melting into your arms for a cuddle. When he is not soaking up love, he’s happily entertaining himself with toys, wrestling with his sister, or chewing on a bully stick. With his stunning brown coat, black highlights, and white-tipped toes and chest, Travis is just as beautiful on the outside as he is on the inside. Even the cranky resident dog in his foster home can’t help but tolerate him—he’s just that easygoing and quiet. Potty training is still a work in progress, so his forever family will need to continue helping him with consistency and patience. While Travis hasn’t been tested with cats, his gentle nature suggests he’d do just fine with them. If you’re looking for a calm, cuddly, and irresistibly sweet companion, Travis might just be your perfect match. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
