Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Cattle Dog / Mixed. Hi! I'm Rowan! I'm an approximately 10 week old, male, Hound/Cattledog mix. Animal control came to my rescue after being called by a technician who witnessed me and my sister being dumped off of Phoenix Ln in Rockwall on 09/17/25. Sadly, no owner ever came forward for me. I am a sweet boy with plenty of puppy love to share. I am looking for a family with a big heart and enough patience to train me to be the best family companion I can be. I am scheduled to return to the shelter on Wednesday, October 1st for my neuter. This date is non-negotiable so plan accordingly. My adoption fee is $125 and includes my neuter, microchip, rabies vaccination, 1st set of puppy boosters, and 1st dewormer. All animals, unless otherwise noted in their description, are at 1825 Airport Rd. in Rockwall, TX. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 5 pm. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
