LUCY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Lucy and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (11/9) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Rockville, MD (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)! Name: Lucy Best Guess for Breed: Border collie and shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of September 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 45 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Lucy is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Long sniffy walks, romps in parks, all the adventures her humans can dream up - yes, please! And make pup pals along the way, and go to dog school to show how super smart she is too. What My Foster Says About Me: Lucy is an absolute sweetheart and loves receiving as much love and cuddles as she can get. She is a bit shy when first meeting people, but she quickly warmed up to us after we gave her some pets and spent time with her. She has been great in the house and has had no accidents so far. She loves playing with her toys and doesn't seem interested in chewing any shoes or other household items. She slept through the night in her crate no problem and is very chill during the day while my partner works from home. She has yet to bark at any people/dogs/cars outside or on her walks. She has good leash manners and picks up on cues quickly of where you want to go. Overall, we think anyone would be lucky to have her join their family, she's a real gem. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
