Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Courtesy Post – Rehoming Needed This dog is not at the shelter. Meet Draco – a handsome and playful 2-year-old male German Shepherd (black and brown). ✔️ Spayed/Neutered: No ✔️ Vaccines: Current ✔️ Potty trained: No ✔️ Crate trained: Yes Draco has been with his family since he was a puppy, but they are no longer able to keep him due to behavior-related challenges. He is a very friendly, noble dog who loves people and children. Draco enjoys visitors and is happiest when someone is willing to play fetch with him. He has been kept primarily outdoors for long stretches but is crate trained and ready to learn with the right structure and consistency. Draco would do best in a home experienced with German Shepherds, where he can receive continued training, engagement, and plenty of exercise. With time and attention, he has the potential to be a loyal and loving companion. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
