Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Sweet Sticks’ Big Smile Meet Sticks—the 73-pound bundle of joy with a Pac-Man smile big enough to light up the whole shelter. Featured on The Dodo (because of course he was), Sticks has become a bit of a local celebrity. Volunteers joke that he’s our “national treasure on four paws,” and honestly, they’re not wrong. Every morning, Sticks greets his human friends with that signature “Pac Man” grin and a gentle arm tap—his polite way of saying, “Hey, I could use a few more scratches, please.” He walks like a dream, matching the rhythm of crisp fall leaves crunching underfoot, tail swaying like a metronome of happiness. But don’t let his chill vibe fool you—this seven-year-old gentleman has a goofy side. Give him a squeaky toy or toss a tennis ball, and you’ll see the funniest expressions flash across his face. One minute he’s calm and composed, the next he’s zooming around like a happy kid on a sugar rush. Recently, after a good bath and a towel-dry session, Sticks strutted around the play yard like he was on a runway—gleaming coat, wagging tail, and that ever-present grin. He’s the volunteers’ favorite for good reason: sweet, steady, endlessly affectionate, and always ready to remind you that joy doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s just a dog named Sticks, smiling his way into everyone’s heart—waiting for the day he’ll have a forever home of his own. To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis.
