A bright little ray of sunshine PAMELA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Pamela Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of 09/16/2025 SEX: female Approximate Weight: 13.8 lbs. Gets Along With: other dogs. We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: the shelter, Pamela needs a foster and a forever home. Special adoption considerations: Pamela is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! She’s a gentle soul who thrives on quiet companionship, cozy blankets, and the occasional sunbeam nap. Whether she’s curled up beside you on the couch or trotting behind you like a shadow, Pamela’s presence is calming and sweet. She’s a little shy at first, but once she trusts you, she’ll melt into your arms like she was always meant to be there. Her expressive eyes say it all: she’s ready to love and be loved. Pamela's short legs may not be made for running marathons but she will need daily exercise. Smaller dogs often enjoy taking multiple short walks throughout the day. While Chihuahuas are known for bursts of energy, they’re also expert loungers. Expect zoomies followed by long naps in sunbeams or blankets. Being a young girl. Pamela will enjoy an active social life so she can play with some canine friends at the dog park, doggy daycare, or someone's fenced yard. For those stretches of bad weather, be prepared to offer Pamela some mental challenges such as puzzle toys, snuffle mats, or games like hide and seek. Training is helpful for all dogs and their homework exercises practiced throughout the week keeps their little brains busy.
