Fern enjoys peaceful walks and is happiest when the mood is relaxed and the company is kind. She is curious and responsive, especially when treats and praise are involved, and she enjoys learning new things at her own pace. Fern gets along well with calm, friendly dogs and prefers when the energy stays easygoing. She knows when it’s time to play and when it’s time to chill, making her a lovely match for someone who enjoys both activity and downtime. Fern will thrive in a home where she can build trust, enjoy gentle routines and be part of someone’s everyday life. She’s sweet, sensitive and full of quiet charm. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
