Dog Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Honey! Honey was found running as a stray in Rock Hill, SC, but luckily, she had an advocate in the community looking out for her who reached out to rescue. We take in many wonderful strays from this area, where shelters are overwhelmed and dogs are too often left to fend for themselves. Honey was originally fostered in South Carolina with two other dogs and thrived as part of a pack. She arrived in Northern Virginia on October 4th and has quickly settled into her local foster home. She’s currently living as an only dog, and her foster mom, Punita, is really enjoying he company. Honey is young and playful, but she also has a real passion for comfort and naps. Punita has been socializing Honey around the neighborhood and making sure she gets plenty of playtime with the neighbor dogs, and Honey has been wonderful with all of them. She truly loves other dogs and would make a fantastic pack member. Punita shared, “Everyone she meets on the trail falls in love with her. People keep asking for my number to set up puppy play dates - she’s very popular!” Punita shared this update: “Honey is very sweet and affectionate. She’s a little shy with adults at first but warms up quickly to kids and other dogs. Once she has a little time to settle in, she’s very social - which is excellent! She’s housetrained and crate-trained, though I haven’t needed to use the crate yet. She sleeps in bed with me at night, and one morning, when I wasn’t ready to wake up, she decided to put her head on mine and start snoring. She’s mellow indoors but playful, with bursts of puppy energy. She entertains herself well and calms down easily. She listens immediately when given feedback and is honestly such a good dog; she sits for treats, respects the home, and doesn’t chew or destroy anything. Just a few toys keep her happily occupied!” ***** Honey is a young dog with a medium energy level; she’ll have playful bursts but then happily settles down with a toy and loves all the comforts of home life. Honey has also met the neighbor kids and did wonderfully. With her social, affectionate nature, we think she’d make a fantastic family dog, especially in a fun, active home with a canine playmate.
