Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: NC Say hello to Ruger! Ruger was found as an abandoned stray and brought into a local shelter. He is estimated to be about 2 yrs old, neutered, up to date on vaccines & monthly prevention, and is heartworm negative! Ruger loves to run and play in his yard but is still a little skeptical of the outside world and its noises. He enjoys having a playmate that can match his energy, but is also content just playing with his humans in the yard. Though he can be a little shy at first, he quickly warms up and just wants to be with his people. Ruger is housetrained and goes into his kennel (or exercise pen) with no issues over night and when his foster parents go to work. He is a medium energy cattle dog that enjoys a good play session but then he’s ready to settle in the house or to follow you from room to room in typical cattle dog fashion. Ruger is looking for a home with or without a playmate however, he could benefit from a confident dog to help show him the ropes and gain confidence in the outside world. Though any housemate will need to be a patient dog, as he can be a little too in your face for some dogs. He is a home body and would prefer a quieter place to settle in before trying to explore. He will need a home with NO small dogs or cats, as his prey drive is very high. He can go to a home with older kids (12+) but is not suitable for younger children, as he does like to jump and can be a little mouthy when excited. Ruger will need continued obedience training, but is responding well to positive training methods with his foster parents, and the help of his foster sibling. He is located in Durham, NC but his foster will consider neighboring states as long as potential adopters are committed to the drive to meet him. Please contact griffinbrigmail. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
