He is a sweet, playful, and affectionate little guy who’s ready to find his forever home! Kirby loves to play—fetch, tug-of-war, or just tossing toys around on his own—and when playtime is over, he’s just as happy curling up on your lap for snuggles. He’s good with other dogs, walks nicely on leash, and already knows “sit” (though he sometimes likes to do it on his own terms!). He’s polite in the house—no barking, no chewing—and enjoys being part of the action. Kirby is still adjusting to his new routine. He can be a picky eater, preferring crunchy kibble and chicken, and is figuring out his bathroom habits. With patience, a little structure, and some tummy-friendly food, he’ll continue to settle in. He’s curious and playful with other dogs, sometimes a little too much, but he’s learning boundaries quickly. He isn’t aggressive with kids, but he does seem shy and unsure around them, so an adults-only home (or one with older, dog-savvy teens) may be best for him. If you’re looking for a pup who is equal parts fun-loving and snuggly, Kirby could be your perfect match. He’s a cutie with lots of love to give, and he can’t wait to meet his new family! Kirby is neutered and up to date on vaccinations for his age. His adoption fee is $350. A refundable training deposit of $100 will be also due upon adoption. Training must be provided in a timely fashion to ensure our pups become the best canine citizens. The training deposit will be refundable within 3 months of the adoption date. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to .secondchancedogrescue and complete an application today! All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
