Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400. Meet Sweet and Gentle Jade Jade is a petite 1-year-old, 19-pound beauty with wonderfully large, expressive ears and four little white socks. A fascinating mix (we think Chihuahua and Australian Cattle Dog), Jade is still carefully observing the world around her. She’s slowly learning to trust people and getting more comfortable with the everyday sights and sounds of life. Potty-trained and content being left alone for a few hours Comfortable on an outdoor tie-out (always supervised)—she loves to soak up the sun while watching squirrels and bunnies play and doesn’t chase them Enjoys walks and is gentle on a leash Just starting to get curious about toys (she loves cuddling her reindeer stuffy! Quiet and well-behaved indoors and out Likely would thrive and build her confidence with another friendly dog or two in the house No experience with cats yet Jade is a sensitive soul who needs adopters willing to be patient as she continues to build confidence. She blossoms with gentle reassurance and a calm environment. While she hasn’t lived with children in her foster home, her sweet, gentle nature suggests she could do well with older respectful kids who understand she will need space as she adjusts (10yrs or older). Another dog in the household is very much preferred so that Jade can learn the ropes and feel more secure! This shy sweetheart is ready for her safe, happy place! Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
