Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (long coat). Meet Frankie! Tiny in size but big in personality, Frankie is a 4.5 lb Yorkie who’s as sweet as she is confident. She was surrendered by her owner, a single mom with a hectic schedule, who wanted her to have more time, attention, and the life she deserves. Frankie has been in her foster home for about a week and has adapted easily to her new environment. She lives with two retired foster parents and their senior pup, and quickly figured out the household routine. She’s making great progress with potty training. When she needs to go, she heads to the back door to let you know. This little girl enjoys her walks and has clearly been on a leash before. She loves strolling around the neighborhood and enjoys a playful romp in the backyard before settling in for snuggles. Her energy level is moderate: she’s active and curious but equally happy to curl up on your lap, where she feels most at home. Frankie is social with people and other dogs and would do well as either a spoiled only pup or a member of a pack. Because of her very small size, we will prioritize adopters who have experience with tiny breeds. She could gain a pound, but even at her healthiest weight, she’ll likely stay under 6 lbs. Frankie is a happy, affectionate companion who’s ready to bring joy and love to her forever home. Apply today! Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
