Description
Dog Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Star is a-6-month-old-month-female Black Lab mix who must be spayed before adoption. She was found as a stray near a busy road; and her owner did not come to claim her. Star has a black coat with some white markings. She weighs 36 pounds and will be a large adult dog. Star does have legs--we promise! She just refused to stand up for her pictures! Star loved lounging on the grass in the warm sunshine. She is active, friendly, and would be great with children and other dogs. Star needs some work on her leash training. Dog/puppy adoption fees are $120. Cat/kitten adoption fees are $75. All pets will be spayed/neutered before adoption; or you will be given a discount spay/neuter certificate to be used at participating vet clinics to help with the cost of spay/neuter. Our adoption fees cover a microchip, microchip registration, deworming, vaccinations (as age and law requires), and a courtesy vet exam at participating offices. Unless otherwise indicated under "special needs" our dogs have screened heart worm negative.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
