Description
Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 600. Laika is an energetic and affectionate Aussie/Collie mix with a medium coat and the brightest blue eyes! When she first came into foster care, she was nervous and protective, but with patience, gentle reassurance, and lots of treats, she now follows me around everywhere! Once she feels comfortable, her sweet and playful personality shines through. Laika loves curling up at your feet for naps and often checks back in for attention when outside, showing just how loving and loyal she can be. She is still learning the ropes of meeting new people and dogs—she can be reactive/vocal at first, so slow introductions are key. Due to her breed, she is a high-energy pup. Laika thrives on playtime, often chasing squeaky toys and playing fetch, or running around with our resident Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. Laika knows basic commands and is potty trained. She is very food motivated and is therefore eager to keep learning. With continued training, patience, and love, Laika has the potential to be a loyal and cuddly companion who will bring both laughter and energy to her future furever home! The Border-Aussie, a captivating hybrid of the Australian Shepherd and Border Collie, is a relatively new designer breed gaining popularity for its intelligence and athleticism. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of its highly trainable parent breeds, the Border-Aussie typically exhibits a medium build with a striking, often bi- or tri-colored coat that can be rough or smooth. Temperamentally, they are incredibly intelligent, energetic, and possess a strong work drive, making them eager to learn and excel in various dog sports. While generally good-natured and loyal, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them best suited for active families or individuals who can provide consistent training and plenty of exercise; they are generally not ideal for apartment living. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns inherited from their parent breeds, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, eye conditions (like Collie Eye Anomaly), and epilepsy.
