Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. June is a very goofy girl who loves to play and sleeps in hilarious positions. She's equal parts sweet, silly, and smart. She's about 6 months old and has already started to come out of her shell after being rescued. At first, she might be a little shy, but give her a bit of time and you’ll see her goofy side, especially when she does her signature air chomps (think tiny herding dog telling you it’s snack time). June is such a fun-loving pup! She’s all about a good game of tug-o-war (with a sturdy toy, not ropes - those don’t stand a chance against her). Fetch is another favorite, especially with her squeaky spikey toy. She’ll even do her signature little air chomps while waiting for you to throw it again. She also enjoys working on her Kong Wobbler, which keeps her happily entertained. She hasn’t met cats or kids, but because of her funny little air chomps and herding tendencies, a home without them would likely be best. June would absolutely love a good yard to prance and play in. June is not spayed yet, but only because she’s expected to be a large dog and our vet has confirmed she has mild hip dysplasia. We are happy to help cover this if need be. We want to make sure her spay is timed in the most beneficial way for her long-term health and growth. She is fully vaccinated and will be microchipped when she is spayed. She’s also already set up with pet insurance, which I’m happy to sign over to her new family. Her hip dysplasia sounds scarier than it is, it’s actually quite common in large breeds (including German Shepherds) and, in her case, very mild. She can still run, play, and enjoy life like any other pup; she’ll just need a little extra care as she grows. Things like joint supplements, keeping her at a healthy weight, and focusing on lower-impact exercise (walks, play in the yard, enrichment activities) will help keep her comfortable and thriving. With the right care, dogs with mild hip dysplasia can live long, active, and happy lives, and June is no exception! **** Breed: German Shepherd **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2189023&flag=1

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
