Description
Dog Breed: Poodle (Toy) / Mixed (medium coat). Elphaba, a delightful 10 month-old Toy Poodle mix. She possesses a truly captivating spirit, brimming with playful energy and an eagerness to learn. While still relatively young, she is already demonstrating a wonderful capacity for understanding and adapting to her environment. Her house training is progressing well; she is reliably potty pad trained and actively learning to eliminate outdoors, requiring only consistent reinforcement and patience. Her playful nature extends to her interactions with toys, a skill she’s enthusiastically developing. We believe with the right guidance and positive reinforcement, she will quickly master this aspect of her training. She has not been tested with cats. She will benefit from regular grooming by a professional experienced with nervous or anxious dogs. This is crucial not only for her physical well-being but also to help her associate grooming with positive experiences, fostering trust and reducing any potential anxiety. We’re committed to finding a groomer specialized in gentle, positive reinforcement techniques to facilitate this. It's important to note that she will require a minor dental procedure – the removal of a few remaining baby teeth. This is a routine procedure that any veterinarian can readily address. She also had a bout with pancreatitis which is why she was surrendered to the rescue. She is currently on a low-fat prescription food. Her new home must be willing to work with their vet to see if this is something she requires for life, or can transition off of it. We do not know if there were precipitating factors in her previous home that caused this (like being fed high-fat scraps) or if it was an isolated incident. Our veterinarian is working to slowly transition her from her Rx food to a commercially available low fat food (First Mate for Overweight dogs -- she is NOT overweight, it is just a low fat version) while she is in foster care. Elphaba is a dog for people with the ability to pay for vet care without concern. Her pancreatitis is a pre-existing condition and would not be covered by pet insurance. Her retained baby teeth will also need to be addressed if they do not fall out on their own in the next few months. She also requires a special fear free grooming experience. While, we do not require adopters to be wealthy especially if they will purchase pet insurance, this dog is NOT a dog for someone on a budget. Otherwise, she is completely healthy, fully vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. At night, she is a calm and peaceful companion, spending her sleep time quietly and contentedly within her pen. We are confident that with the right home, she will become a treasured member of the family, bringing boundless joy. Please email beourpetgmail and ensure to mention specifics from this listing on why you feel that Elphaba is the right fit for your home and your home is the right fit for her. Because she is the SUPERFECTA of adoptability (young, female, fluffy), we expect to get dozens of emails and we predict that 90% of them will not follow the directions to mention specifics from this bio ;) Guess which emails will be answered first and prioritized??
