Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed. Meet our boy Jax! He is a handsome tricolor hound mix whose curious eyes and lively spirit make him impossible not to love. This sweet boy is just 5 months old and is at the perfect age to grow and learn alongside his new family. Currently weighing 20 pounds, Jax is expected to mature into a medium-sized dog, likely reaching anywhere up to 50 pounds at full adulthood. His short, easy-care coat makes grooming simple. A quick brush and his coat will shine just like his eyes. Still young, Jax has his whole life ahead of him. He is wonderful with people, children and already enjoys the company of other dogs. He has not had an opportunity to be introduced to a cat since coming into rescue. As a pup, Jax is still learning the ropes. He is currently learning his housetraining, crate training, and leash training, but with consistency, patience, and a whole lot of positive reinforcement, he will thrive in these areas in no time. Jax has it all. He has playful energy, an affectionate nature, and sweet doe eyes, which makes him the perfect candidate for home ready to guide him into adulthood. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
