Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. 4-year-old, 40 lb Shepherd mix mama PUMPKIN was rescued from a southern shelter along with her puppies. This sweet girl loves pets, attention, and gets along well with other dogs. She’s learning and thriving in her foster home and we are learning more about her! So far Pumpkin is valm, affectionate, and well-behaved, Pumpkin is a gentle soul ready to find her forever home according to ther foster mom. This sweet girl loves attention and adores being near her humans. While she’s currently a devoted mama to her pups, she’s learning to enjoy some one-on-one love and would thrive in a home where she can be the center of attention. Pumpkin is well-mannered, house-trained, and crate-trained, making her an easy addition to any household. She’s calm indoors, but she comes alive when outside exploring the world. She may be startled by loud noises like motorcycles or trash cans rolling by, but is learning to be more confident! She gets along with children and other dogs (especially her pups!) and is very curious about birds and squirrels. Pumpkin is low- to medium-energy, loves walks, and her favorite pastime is snuggling close to her people!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
