Description
Dog Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer. Adoption Fee: $250. Online Adoption Application › Southern IN – Meet Belle! This beautiful 2-year-old girl is ready to find her forever home. Belle's past is a bit of a mystery, but it’s believed she spent much of her life outdoors in a kennel as a working dog. Now, she’s learning what it means to be a loved family companion. Belle adores people and is good with older kids. She does well with dogs outside the home but would thrive best as the only dog in the household, where she can soak up all the love and attention she’s missed out on. In her foster home, Belle has shown some protective reactivity toward other resident dogs. Because of this, her ideal adopter would be either someone who can provide her a home as the only dog, or an experienced, dog-savvy owner who understands this behavior and is committed to managing it safely with ongoing training. Belle is looking for a patient person who will continue helping her build confidence and security. With love, structure, and understanding, she will blossom into the sweet, loyal companion she’s meant to be. If you have the experience, compassion, and heart to give Belle the chance she deserves, please reach out to her foster mom. ❤️ As of 10/9 Belle has learned to be comfortable in the company of the fosters other dogs. She's really come a long way. She would easily be trained to an electric fence.

Overview:
The German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) is a versatile and elegant sporting breed, originating in 19th-century Germany where it was developed for hunting various game. Physically, GSPs are known for their athletic build, sleek coat (typically liver or liver and white), and intelligent, expressive eyes. They possess a strong, muscular physique that enables them to excel in diverse activities. Temperamentally, GSPs are energetic, intelligent, and highly trainable, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families. Their loyal and affectionate nature means they thrive on human interaction, but their high energy levels necessitate ample daily exercise to prevent boredom or destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless their exercise requirements are exceptionally well-met. Regarding health, GSPs are a relatively robust breed, though they can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, eye conditions, and certain cancers. Responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups are crucial for maintaining their well-being.
