Description
Dog Breed: Brittany (medium coat). Hey Everyone, I’m Oboe a super active 2 year old Liver and White male searching for a place to call home Forever! Right now, I’m enjoying the good life in a wonderful foster home here in Northwest PA. I’m up to date on vaccine, neutered, heartworm negative, on prevention, and micro-chipped. I’m also mostly housetrained but my foster Mom still keeps an eye on me and takes me out him about every 2 hours just so I don’t forget. I don’t soil my crate, which I’m not a big fan of. Sometimes, I like to squeal in my crate if I see my foster in the vicinity of my crate and she is not getting me out fast enough. I’m learning to be more patient especially when my foster Mom says “enough”. I’m looking for family who is as active as me. A family who might like to go hiking, boating, swimming or are the outdoors type would be ideal. I don’t tire easily so I will need plenty of exercise so my new home must also include a good size physically fenced yard too. I also LOVE the water! I enjoy splashing in it, taking drinks while I sit in it, I will also dive into it or blow bubbles through my nose in it, anything with water! I love going on walks. My foster Mom says I’m doing fairly well on lead with a firm command to go ‘easy’. I’m also working on “sit”, “leave it”, “off”, “come” and “wait”. I’m getting pretty good with ‘come’, but I do needs occasional reminders for ‘wait’ (both at doors leading to outside and when exiting my crate). I do well with “off” but “sit” and “leave it” are still a work in progress. I also love playing with toys, however, toys of cloth are not a good match for me. I do like to shred them into small pieces and have even eaten a few of those pieces. I’m learning “don’t tear it up” with minimal success. I also enjoy chew bones, large nylabones and buffalo horns. My foster Mom says I’m the best at de-stuffing non-squeaky toys too. I will also play fetch, but really don’t like to bring the toy back, instead running off with it. I get along good with other dogs especially younger ones who love to run and play like I do. I also enjoy chasing bugs, butterflies, and bird in the yard. However, I’m not a fan of cats and it’s recommend my new home also be small dog free. I enjoy people very much and get along great with Women the most. I am can be timid around men at times, not in a mean way, I just find then scary at times. With the help of my foster Mom(s) I am getting better at trusting men and don’t always feel the need to run and hide behind them. I now try to stretch as far as I can to give a sniff while still staying beside my foster Moms. I have even taken a treat from some who’ve stopped and crouch down with me too. So I’m Slowly learning that men maybe ok but my new home will need to have at least 1 adult female around willing to have a shadow. I’m good with children but I may knock little one around, so a home with children 8 and above would also be best. Oboe’s ideal Forever home should include a loving and caring family who wants to give him a place to call home, Is that your home? If so, please consider filling out an application for Oboe/PA online at: nbran/adopt/adoption-application. Once your application is submitted the coordinator in the State where you reside will follow-up with you. Need to reach your State Coordinator, find their contact information here nbran/about/state-provincial-coordinators. Overview:
The Brittany is a beloved and versatile gun dog, originating from the Brittany province of France in the 17th century. These medium-sized dogs are instantly recognizable by their athletic build, often appearing leggy and agile, with a dense, flat or wavy coat that comes in orange and white, or liver and white. Their intelligent and eager-to-please nature makes them incredibly trainable and responsive. Temperamentally, Brittanys are known for being friendly, energetic, and affectionate, making them excellent companions for active families. While their moderate size might suggest apartment living, their high energy levels and need for regular exercise mean they thrive best in homes with a yard or access to plenty of outdoor space. Generally a healthy breed, they can be predisposed to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and sometimes epilepsy, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. With proper training and socialization, a Brittany will undoubtedly enrich the lives of its devoted family.
