Dog Breed: Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie / Mixed. adoption $250.00 = Smokey is a spunky and social guy who’s mastered potty time and settles into his crate like a pro. He knows basic commands like sit and come, and he’s eager to learn more. Smokey gets along well with other pets and walks nicely on a leash with either a collar or halter. A little special info about this lovebug—due to his prior living conditions, Smokey came to us with a skin infection that has since been treated and fully healed. His beautiful fur is still growing back, so he currently looks a bit like a toddler who found mom’s scissors on picture day. With patience, humor, and plenty of belly rubs, he’ll be back to supermodel status in no time. New foster dogs need time to feel safe. They may be skittish or fearful, so always stay with them outside—even in fenced yards. Ensure collars and leashes fit securely to prevent escapes. Your gentle presence and protection help them feel loved and secure. The adoption fee helps allow Perfect Paws to provide all animals with current, age appropriate vaccinations which include, DHLPP, Kennel Cough and Rabies (if the pet is at least 13 weeks old), and spay/neuter when necessary. The fee also helps with the cost of deworming; heartworm testing (if the pet is at least 1 year old), heartworm prevention as well as flea and tick prevention for animals cared for through the rescue. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
