Description
Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 275. Meet Luna Luna is a gorgeous Pyr/Akbash mix who’s as friendly and fun-loving as they come! Just over a year old, this sweet girl was abandoned by her previous owners in Jackpot, Nevada. Thankfully, a kind neighbor stepped in and rescued her, then reached out to us for help when he realized Luna deserved more space, love, and adventure than he could offer from his small trailer home. Now safe with Great Pyrenees Rescue Montana in Missoula, Luna is thriving! She’s social, affectionate, and full of life. She loves playing with other dogs, adores people (especially kids!), and is always up for a car ride or a good cuddle. She walks nicely on leash and has that perfect balance of playful energy and gentle sweetness. Luna will be spayed at the end of October and is already up to date on all vaccines. Her adoption fee is $275, which includes her spay, vaccines, and microchip. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s great with dogs, people, and kids alike—Luna is your girl. She’s available now for meet and greets in Missoula with an approved application.

Overview:
The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
