Dog Breed: American Bulldog. Mango is a sweet, sensitive soul who is looking for a calm and understanding home where she can feel safe and loved. When Mango first came to us, she was very scared—so much so that she wouldn’t come out of her room for the first few days. With time and patience, we discovered something wonderful: Mango showed interest in her doggie neighbors! We even used a fake dog to help her gain confidence, and it worked like a charm. Once Mango felt brave enough to step outside, her true personality began to shine. She absolutely adores her stuffies, happily carrying them around and playing with them, and she has the cutest zoomies when she’s running free in the yard. Watching her open up has been such a joy, and we know she’ll blossom even more in a loving home. Mango will do best with a family who understands that she needs time to adjust and a gentle environment where she can build trust at her own pace. In return, she’ll give you her whole heart, along with plenty of silly, joyful moments once she feels safe. Overview:
Originally used in the 17th century for bull baiting—a wagering sport in which dogs fought bulls in a ring—Bulldogs had taller, more athletic frames (much like the Olde English Bulldogge). When bull baiting was outlawed in 1835, Bulldogs were bred to be kinder, heavier and more relaxed. However, American Bulldogs—which were brought to the U.S. before this breeding pattern—retained the size and strength of the original Bulldogs. Great family dogs, American Bulldogs are sweet to children. They love family-oriented occasions and want to be involved. With proper training and socialization, you’ll find them outgoing and exceedingly loyal. Some American Bulldogs will go to great lengths to protect their masters. Tough and determined, American Bulldogs have an impressive stamina and strength. They are always game for playtime in the back yard or working in the field.
