Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: Taghkanic, NY Looking for a tall, dark, and handsome ride-or-die? Meet Rip Heeler – and yes, Yellowstone fans, the name fits. Just like his namesake, Rip is loyal, strong, and has a heart of gold. Rip's story starts in Georgia, where this sweet boy was found as a stray and running out of time. Everyone who met him saw what a gem he was, and thanks to ACDRA, Rip got a second chance. Once in our care, Rip underwent heartworm treatment like a total champ. For over two months, he patiently rested, took his crate time in stride, and used the downtime to learn some manners. He’s already mastered sit, down, and stay, and is working on his leash skills (he loves going for walks!). Now fully recovered, Rip is enjoying life to the fullest. He’s met lots of other dogs and does great with them—he can play when invited but respects when others need space. He’s a fan of fetch and tug, but not in an obsessive way. And whether it’s people or pups, Rip greets everyone with a sweet, gentle spirit. At around 2 years old, Rip is in the prime of his life. He’s even-tempered, well-mannered, crate-trained, and house-trained—a truly good-natured companion. He’d thrive in a home with or without other dogs. Rip is being fostered in Taghkanic, NY, and potential adopters should be willing to travel to meet him. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
