If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Sunshine is a 1 year old female Yorkie mix who weighs in at 8-9 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $500. If you are still interested, please read more below. Sunshine came to ARF by way of a local shelter. She is super friendly and does well with kids and adults. She is great with other dogs and is happy to play with whoever wants to play with her. She is working hard on housetraining and is about 75% there. This little cutie will surely steal your heart! Sunshine is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and scheduled to be spayed October 10th. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
