Description
Dog Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Welcome Oaks to CCPAL Rescue foster program. Oaks is a 1.5 year old German Short haired pointer and German Shepherd. He is about 48 pounds and a good weight. He is good in a car, potty trained, doggy door trained and lives with six children starting at age 2. He also lives with 6 other dogs and does fine. He would be great with a family and children would be fine. We like them to be 8 or older. He is smart, laid back, good with other dogs and bonds deeply to his family. He is a little timid with strangers but comfortable with his people. His foster family is going to start taking him places so he can get used to changes in environment and other people. He is smart but he doesn’t like to retrieve like his sister does. He is a nice dog and naturally a little protective to his family. He would be great with a family that the dad travels and he wants to feel that his family is safe and taken care of. He is a moderate shedding dog and with his long legs would be a great walking or jogging companion. He is neutered, healthy and getting his vaccinations and ready for his forever home. He is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. His adoption fee is $300 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to ccpalinquiriesgmail if you have questions. Breed overview
Overview:
The German Shorthaired Shepherd is a striking hybrid resulting from the cross between the German Shepherd Dog and the German Shorthaired Pointer. Originating from designer breed programs, its purpose was to combine the intelligence and loyalty of the Shepherd with the athleticism and hunting drive of the Pointer. Physically, they are medium to large-sized dogs, typically boasting a muscular build, alert expression, and a short, dense coat that can come in various colors like black, liver, or sable, often with characteristic Pointer markings. Temperamentally, they are known for being highly intelligent, energetic, and incredibly loyal to their families, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families. However, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them generally unsuitable for apartment living; they thrive in homes with secure yards and owners committed to regular exercise and training. Potential health considerations can include those common to both parent breeds, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, certain eye conditions, and bloat. Early socialization and consistent training are crucial for developing a well-adjusted German Shorthaired Shepherd.
