Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Meet Milo and Shadow A few months ago someone dropped off a very sweet dog, who was very pregnant, at my house. We knew we couldn’t keep her long term, but also wouldn’t take her to the shelter to have her puppies. She had 7 puppies around the end of May. We have found homes for 5, but still have 2 males left. They are super sweet and playful. We need to find good forever homes for them. Please let us know if you or anyone you know would be interested in one of these sweet puppies. We only want them to go to someone we know will treat them well. Thank you for any help. We really appreciate it! In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
