Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Ranger came in as a stray. Although he may look young in his photo, the vet estimates that he is around 6 years old. He appears to be house trained. But with any new dog in your home, he will need to learn your routine as you will need to learn his cues that he needs to go out. When Ranger came in he had a problem with his eyes. The vet has determined that he has Pannus, which requires eye drops once a day for the rest of his life. The medication from Animal Medical Center in Emmett is $26.50 as of October 16th (we just had it filled). Ranger knows commands like sit, down, and probably more. We are still learning about him and will update his bio as we know more, but why wait! Come down and meet this handsome boy! All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. Please fill out an application if you are interested in this dog or call us today for more information Because we are an all-volunteer organization, please call ahead to schedule a time for a Meet & Greet so we can ensure a dog handler is available to show you the dog or dogs you are interested in. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
