Yes, Rufus requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller. What kind of home would be best for me? Rufus will thrive in a calm, predictable home with older teens or adults who can respect his need for space at first. He absolutely flourishes on a steady routine — consistency helps him feel confident and relaxed. Once he understands what to expect from his day and his people, his personality really begins to shine. Rufus tends to prefer women over men, likely because his past caregivers were women and that’s where he feels most secure. While he may take longer to open up to men, with patience and kindness, he can learn that good people come in all forms. Rufus enjoys the company of other dogs and can coexist well with them, though at the end of the day, his heart truly belongs to his person. Once he’s settled in, he’s less interested in playing with canine friends and more focused on being your shadow — your loyal, loving companion through everything. What is my personality like? Rufus was born to a breeder and did not sell as a puppy. The breeder decided to keep him for 2 years, then reached out to rescue when his care became more than she could handle. Rufus spent the first 2 formative years of his life in a non-traditional environment. In rescue, he's learning what being a companion means. You will be his first ever home. Rufus is an absolutely stunning brown Standard Poodle, and he knows it — but with beauty comes standards, and Rufus has a few you’ll need to meet to earn his trust and friendship. Beneath that elegant exterior is a sensitive, soulful boy who’s been through more than his fair share of challenges yet still greets life with quiet strength and resilience. Rufus has a tender heart that longs for connection, but he needs time, patience, and understanding to feel safe enough to show it. Once he warms up, though, it’s game over — he’ll be glued to your side, following you from room to room, soaking up every bit of affection he can get. Rufus is looking for someone special — someone gentle, patient, and willing to go at his pace. In return, you’ll gain a deeply devoted companion who will love you with quiet intensity and unwavering loyalty. For those who take the time to earn his trust, Rufus will give you his whole heart — and never take it back. How do I act when I first meet new people? Rufus is tentative at first. Slow and steady wins the race with this boy. Once he warms up, he's all yours. Other tips and tidbits: Rufus's birthdate is 03/28/23 House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet.
