Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Adoption Fee: $500. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator: Chris Wood Draven may be intimidating in appearance, but this approximately 18-month-old boy has a heart of gold! His name means “child of the shadows” marking his quiet demeanor and preference to move through the world quietly at your side. Draven loves to play and thus far has not exhibited a single grumbly behavior. He has even won the heart of the dog selective female Malinois at his foster home! He’s also shown her up a few times with his phenomenal nose, tracking backyard critters she missed. Nosework potential? Possibly. He is crate trained and is one of the rare Malinois who is fine in a wire crate. At night he sleeps on the floor next to foster mom inside an ex-pen and does really well. He has no desire to escape as he just wants to be included in everything his person does – right down to sleep! Draven is heartworm positive, but he won’t be for long. He has been treated and is currently trodding through his crate rest period. Though still completing his medical treatment, he has practiced and knows the commands sit, kennel, and come. Draven is also house trained, having never had an accident inside, and he could not care less about thunderstorms. This Maligator is a pleaser, and he does great with new people as long as he is the one to approach them. While he is a total love, he won’t be placed with single digit aged children or small animals as he doesn’t realize he is an 85 pound dog who is a typical mouthy Malinois. While his herding nips have decreased in frequency, he still likes to mouth his humans. While little humans are a hard no, he would be happy in a home with teens, so they can replace the lost hugs his foster-teen offers. Draven is looking at the world through a new lens with his loving foster family. There seem to be many things he has not experienced, and this includes bees. His foster mom reports that Draven was absolutely mesmerized by the critter and sat observing it with big, Bambi eyes as it buzzed about. We are sure you will find Draven equally mesmerizing! A special note from Draven: “Hey, potential adopter! I ABSITIVELY POSOLUTELY LOVE icecubes. They appear rather simple to make, yet Foster Mama keeps telling me they are expensive and that I should value them. Do you have a more affordable stash for me? My perfect forever will have a never ending supply. Plink!” Are you ready for your next big adventure? Are you looking for a Malinois who will adventure with you but has a great off switch when it’s time to savor the memories and rest up for the next bout of fun? A shadow who will attach to your hip and take in the world with you? Draven may be the gentle natured giant you are looking for! He is located in Alabama, and reasonable transport can be arranged. ABMR thanks you for taking the time to look at our malinois available for adoption.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
