Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. It was lovely to see Mindie's wonderful temperament while interacting with all the kids, adults and dogs at Carmichael's Barktober Festival. She had her first, second and third pup cups today courtesy of Livewell's booth, Mindie's definitely a fan. Mindie is a lovely and affectionate 9-month-old girl who greets people with ease, always seeking pets and offering plenty of snuggles along with sweet kisses.Aside from a small amount of hair loss on the tips of both her ears and a scab above her eyebrow, which are already healing, she is in excellent shape after having wandered around on her own for a while. Mindie has settled in nicely in her foster home and has fully integrated with the resident shepherds. Now that she's completely healed from her spay surgery, she's having a grand ole time running with the resident shepherds. Surprisingly for her age, she is good at loose-leash walking and focusing on her person. People fascinate her, and she loves to greet them when they appear friendly during her walks. She hasn't shown any reactivity to fast moving things like bikes, cars nor any dogs on our walks. This little one is also curious about things on the counters, admires her reflection in the mirrors, and enjoys jumping on her people for attention and working on keeping her paws on the ground. Although Mindie needs some encouragement to enter her crate, she settles in quickly for naps and sleeps for about 7 hours at night before needing a potty break. Aside from a couple of accidents on her first day, Mindie has learned that going outside is the preferred option for potty breaks, and her foster family is learning her needs and schedule which are typical of a much younger puppy in terms of reminders. Agile and sturdy, she likes to walk on benches in her yard and bounce off them while keeping up with her friends. Scaling over couches for shortcuts is also a favorite habit at the moment and she's traded tugging on clothes for playing tug with toys. After receiving a few corrections for being rude from the older shepherds, she has adjusted her speed and shows them the respect they require. Her favorite tug playmate Rubi has been adopted so her humans are stepping in as substitutes. Mindi loves soft toys and bonus if they squeak. She tosses them, bounces and likes to shred them. Curious about balls since she lives with ball obsessed dogs, she will run after balls but walk away once she reaches them. Her appetite has recently improved, and she is enjoying her meals. Mindie is one of those shepherds who goes potty fairly quickly after eating, making it easy for her when taken to the designated potty area. We are happy to have her in our care, where she can be cherished and loved as we get to know her better to help find her the perfect forever family. Have you checked out our YouTube channel? Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
