Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Juliet! Juliet is a gentle, gorgeous girl with fine, fiery red hair. She was found as a stray with a litter of puppies and was skinny as a rail, but she is gaining weight and gaining confidence. Juliet now prances and bounds about in the morning to show her enthusiasm for breakfast! She is playful with her foster brothers. Her spectacular claret coat is a beautiful compliment to her marvelous, mild disposition. Her time on the street sometimes shows because she can be difficult to approach, especially outside, but when she's curled up on the couch, she'll take whatever love you'll give her. While she still needs a little patience, she is such a sweet, easy-going gal. Juliet is a finely formed beauty who will make a low demand companion. She is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, and current with all vaccines (as appropriate for her age) and on flea and heartworm prevention. Juliet is currently being fostered in South Carolina. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
