Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Otto is a stunning black German Shepherd with a heart as big as his paws. He's a shy, sensitive boy who's been through a lot, but he's ready to start fresh with someone patient and kind by his side. Otto was found alongside his siblings, but sadly, none were reclaimed by their previous owner. Despite his rough past, he's shown nothing but gentleness and quiet resilience. He's a little anxious and tends to find comfort walking along the fence line or staying close to familiar faces, but once he feels safe, his true personality starts to peek through! Soft, curious, and full of heart. He's friendly with people once he warms up and clearly wants to trust again. A calm, loving home would help him come out of his shell and show just how loyal and affectionate he can be. With time, Otto will make someone the most devoted companion: the kind who stays close, listens deeply, and loves unconditionally. If you've got a gentle heart and a little patience to give, Otto is ready to trade his nerves for love and begin his new chapter. All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
