Name: Trish Best Guess for Breed: Wire haired terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 3.5 years as of October 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 18 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here! Special adoption considerations: Trish is a bit shy - she needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog who will show her the ropes. Trish is Looking For: Her forever home! This small sweetie landed in the shelter through no fault of her own. Right now she's shy and unsure of what's going on. She wants to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved family pet. To get there she needs extra loving and patient adopters who understand she needs support to become used to new environments, and a welcoming resident dog who will show her how to dog. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
