Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Jasper is a handsome hound pup who is looking for a home. Jasper is with our partner rescue in NC but can come to NJ if we find a foster or adopter. We do offer a foster to adopt trial for approved adopters. Jasper is the shy brother. He loves people and other dogs but needs time to warm up. He is more comfortable when other dogs are around and would do best in a home with other dogs. He is learning to walk on the leash. Jasper is up to date on vaccines. He tested negative for heartworm. If we find a foster or adopter, we will try to get Jasper fixed and microchipped before coming to NJ but we may need to fix him here. His adoption fee is $550. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
