Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Leaf is sweet boy looking for a home. Leaf is with our partner rescue in NC but can come to NJ if we find a foster or adopter. We do offer a foster to adopt trial for approved adopters. Leaf is described as a little nervous Nellie who warms up nicely. He has a little nub tail but his whole body wiggles when he gets excited and it just melts your heart! He doesn't walk on a leash yet - a work in progress. Right now he loves being carried around like a toddler! Leaf is up to date on vaccines. He tested negative for heartworm. If we find a foster or adopter, we will try to get Leaft fixed and microchipped before coming to NJ but we may need to fix him here. His adoption fee is $550. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
