Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Leaf is sweet boy looking for his forever home. He's with our partner rescue in NC, but can come to NJ if we find a foster or adopter. We do offer a foster to adopt trial for approved adopters. Leaf was a little nervous Nellie, but he's now coming out of his shell and he’s doing great! He has a little nub tail but his whole body wiggles when he gets excited and it just melts your heart. Leaf has been working hard with walking on a leash and he's doing pretty well. He's done great meeting other dogs and he really comes out of his shell when he's around other dogs. Leaf is up to date on vaccines and he tested negative for heartworm. If we find a foster or adopter, we will try to get him fixed and microchipped before coming to NJ, but he may need to be fixed in NC. His adoption fee is $550. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
