Description
Dog Breed: Basset Hound / Beagle (short coat). Adoption Fee: $450.00. Gemma is a sweet girl who was found in Waco as a stray in need of some emergency surgery for swallowing a foreign object. This curious gril is full of energy, is extremely affectionate, and loves to please. She is house trained by using the doggie door, loves to play with her foster brother, and loves all the squeaky toys. Gemma is still learning her manners and would likely do best in a home without small children. Gemma is still learning about cats. Although curious about them, she hasn't been thoroughly tested with them. The resident cat stays away from all the dogs in the house. When Gemma isn't playing with toys, she is a huge snuggle bug. Whether you are looking for a dog who is ready for adventures or someone who will simply snuggle up on the couch in your lap to binge watch your favorite shows, Gemma is your perfect balance. Adventure and cuddle.

Overview:
The Basset Hound is a charming and distinctive breed, originating in France as a scent hound primarily used for hunting hare and rabbit. Easily recognized by their long, droopy ears, sad-looking eyes, and short, sturdy legs, they possess an incredibly powerful sense of smell. Despite their somewhat mournful expression, Bassets are known for their gentle, laid-back, and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful companions for families. They are generally good with children and other pets, though their stubborn streak and loud baying bark require consistent training. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient daily exercise, their tendency to follow their nose means a secure yard is essential. Potential owners should be aware of common health concerns such as ear infections due to their long ears, back issues, and bloat. Overall, the Basset Hound is a loyal and loving, if sometimes comically determined, addition to many homes.
