Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Meet Opus! ?? Opus is a 4-year-old Husky with the softest fur and the bluest eyes you’ve ever seen. At just around 41 pounds, he’s a little smaller than most huskies, but don’t let his size fool you; he’s full of charm and personality. This handsome boy has the best facial expressions, and he’s even known to stick his tongue out for extra cuteness points. He also gives one of the sweetest nose boops around. Opus enjoys his walks with a “sniff-first” approach, taking time to explore the world around him. He’s an easy walker and a gentle companion. He sits patiently for treats. Sometimes he’s food-motivated, and sometimes he’s just happy to be near you. Opus is wonderful at both giving and receiving affection, and he’s starting to come out of his shell more each day. He also participates in playgroups and is learning how much fun it can be to have dog friends. If you’re looking for a kind, soulful companion who will melt your heart with a single look, Opus might just be your guy. ?? Opus has participated in shelter playgroups and may enjoy a compatible canine friend in his new home. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Check out his playgroup video here: To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
