Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). #A5729847 Meet Amelia The Gentle “Cotton Ball” Husky ❄️ Amelia is a beautiful, soft-hearted Husky who just needs someone to see the gentle soul behind her shy eyes. -5-year-old spayed female -Siberian Husky, black & white -33 lbs, petite with the softest, fluffiest coat -Arrived at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on 9/30/25 as a stray -Likely a retired mama: calm, mature, and soulful -Typical husky personality: independent but sweet once she trusts you -A bit aloof at first, but warms up with gentle patience (and butt scratches!) -Easy to leash and handle, though can be a little anxious -Responds well to calm handlers who give her time and reassurance -Seems fine with other dogs and takes treats gently -Would thrive with a person who can focus her energy through walks, structure, and love This sweet “retired mama” is a loyal, loving companion. The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy.
