Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Starry is a sweet, unique, blue-eyed beauty with a coal-black face and a grey-black body with patches of white. Being in foster, she's quiet and happy once she gets to know you. She is an excellent walking companionâfriendly and attentive. While she didn't like loading into the car at first, she was fine being lifted in. She had fun at the dog park, where she was able to let loose and run. In her foster home, she is interested in toys and happy to snuggle in a dog bed. She loves to be petted and will nudge you for more if you stop. She was a star at a recent adoption event (scroll down to see her pictures). All dressed up as a bumblebee and having no problem with it. Getting picked up and getting some luv... Meeting other dogs and doing fine. Saying hi to a lot of people, including one who had a pup who looked just like Starry (read further). You'll be starry-eyed once you see this blue-eyed beauty! Meet her at the Yolo County Animal Shelter in Woodland or email adoptyoloshelter for an appointment. Someone is planning to donate an Embark DNA test for Starry and will sponsor her adoption fee, inspired by the remarkable resemblance to their own dog. All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
