Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (short coat). A5727703 Say hello to Shadow , a stunning 1.5-year-old German Shepherd mix with a sleek, inky black coat as deep and beautiful as a starless night sky. ✨ She was sadly surrendered for resource guarding - likely a result of being underfed and neglected - but with consistent care, love, and training, this is an issue that can absolutely be worked through. Despite her rough start and the stress of the shelter, Shadow has remained sweet, affectionate, and eager to please. She warms up quickly to new people, especially in the play yard, and is social and loving once she feels safe. While the shelter recommends she be the only dog in the home, she’s shown no reactive behavior around other pups during our time with her. With a little patience and TLC, Shadow will give you a lifetime of loyalty, cuddles, and unconditional love. Come take home this superstar today! -1 year 7 month black German Shepherd mix -52 pound spayed female -may need the standard round of shots and preventatives before she can go home with you, but the shelter can likely help with this! -came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on 9/19/25 as an owner surrender - this darling girl is very underweight for a shep and likely engaged in such behavior due to being underfed and neglected; with the right care and training, this issue can easily be resolved -sleek and lean, with a beautiful inky black coat, as dense and rich as a starless night sky -despite all she's been through and unsure of why she's in the unfamiliar shelter environment, she remains sweet, affectionate, and eager to please -social with people, she seeks out love and attention, and when in the play yard with new people, she quickly warmed up and relaxed, making her an easy fit in a wide range of families -the shelter has said she needs to be the only pup in the home, but we haven't seen any concerning behaviors when we had her out in the play yard, with lots of other dogs nearby -while Shadow needs some patience, effort, and TLC, you'll be richly rewarded with endless loving and loyalty for the rest of your time together! Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
