Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Meet Mimosa! This beautiful 7-month-old hound mix weighs about 35 pounds and is as sweet as can be. She came all the way from Kentucky, where she and her two siblings were found in rough shape. Thanks to an amazing rescue we work with, they were nursed back to health—and now Mimosa has made her way to Pittsburgh, ready to find her forever home! Magnolia is a friendly and affectionate girl who enjoys meeting new people. She can be a little hesitant at first in new situations, but once she warms up, her gentle and loving personality shines through. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and would love to have a canine companion to help show her the ropes. She loves playing outside, going for walks, and snuggling up with her people—but her absolute favorite thing in the world is her toys! Mimosa carries them around wherever she goes and sometimes even likes to take them to bed but sometimes her brother likes to take them. Mimosa has been doing great with house training and rarely has accidents. She’s crate trained, spending some time there during the day and sleeping soundly through the night. Like any young pup, she’s still learning some manners—like keeping all four paws on the floor when she’s excited, and occasionally getting into things she's not allowed but she’s eager to please and will thrive with a patient adopter willing to continue her training. With her sweet spirit and beautiful coloring, Mimosa is ready to steal your heart and become the perfect addition to your family! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
