ZORRO - TERRIER / MIXED (MEDIUM COAT) DOG FOR ADOPTION

Description

Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Zorro is a 1.5 year old terrier mix – not 100% sure but he is absolutely 100% a good boy through and through. We don’t know a lot about his past, but he appears to have had some training. He knows a few commands (sit, shake, stay) and is learning more quickly. This boy would likely be a rockstar student in an obedience class. Zorro is mostly housetrained. He will let you know if he needs to go outside, but you need to pay attention to his cues, because they are subtle. Consistent work with him has done wonders and we have no doubt that he’ll be 100% trained soon. We do use a belly band in the house if we know we’ll be busy and these ensure that there are no accidents in the house. We have been working on leash training. Zorro pulls a little, but he’s learning quickly. He enjoys going for walks and loves exploring the sights, sounds and smells of new areas. In the home, crate training is going well. He didn’t love it at first, but he now enters on command. He will remain quiet in the crate all night, only letting us know when he needs to go outside in the morning. He is well past his chewing stage, but enjoys carrying things around – mostly toys, but he grabs an occasional shoe or kitchen towel. Once we notice it, he will bring it to us or drop it on command (good boy!) Outside, a fenced yard would be great, but he does well on a trolley style tie-out or a leash with regular walks. Zorro is currently in a foster home with multiple dogs of all sizes, a mellow cat and a variety of chickens. He does very well with the other dogs – he is not alpha at all, enjoys playing fetch or tug of war with them. But he takes cues well and will leave them alone when they aren’t interested. Zorro is pretty interested in the cat, but in a very non-aggressive, playful, intentional way that our cat doesn’t particularly appreciate. As for the chickens, Zorro is curious but hasn’t shown any form of prey drive towards them. We haven’t introduced him to kids yet, but we feel he would do very well, with supervision and some boundaries. We haven’t had any negative interactions with him at all. He’s just a loving, happy, snuggly couch potato who can be equally calm and quiet indoors as he can be playful and boisterous outdoors. We see him doing well in a variety of households and family sizes. If you are looking for a buddy who is flexible and up for just about anything, Zorro may be your guy! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
