Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Looking for a dog who’s got class and a whole lot of affection? Meet Sassafras—a 7-year-old black and tan hound mix who’s 47 pounds of pure love and tail-wagging charm. This sweet gal is no puppy, but she’s still got plenty of pep in her step and snuggles to spare. Sassafras is the kind of dog who’ll follow you to the ends of the trail (and then curl up beside you for a well-earned nap). She’s mellow, gentle, and always ready to lend a paw—or a soulful gaze—to brighten your day. Her name might sound fancy, but Sassafras is down-to-earth and full of heart. Whether she’s sniffing out adventure or soaking up belly rubs, she’s the perfect blend of hound smarts and affectionate spirit. So if you’re ready to add a little spice to your life, Sassafras is ready to be your cuddle root. Adopt her today and let the love take root!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
