Description
Dog Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat). Harlem is a beautiful 2½-year-old girl who found herself at Animal Control through no fault of her own when her family’s living circumstances changed. This bright, funny, and spirited young dog has so much love and personality to share. Harlem is incredibly smart and eager to please—she learns new things in a flash and thrives when given attention and structure. During her short time in a foster home, she was an absolute gem—crate trained, housebroken, and affectionate with her people. Sadly, being back in a kennel has been very stressful for her, and it’s clear she longs to be back in a loving home where she can relax and shine. Because of her spunky, playful energy, Harlem would probably do best in a home with older children who can match her enthusiasm and enjoy her fun-loving personality. Harlem is fully vetted and ready to start her next chapter. She deserves a family who will see her for the wonderful, loyal companion she is and give her the stability and love she’s been missing. Overview:
The American Staffordshire Terrier, often affectionately called an "AmStaff," is a breed with a fascinating history, originating in 19th-century England and later refined in the United States. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular, and agile dogs, known for their powerful build and distinctive wide smile. Their short, stiff coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. In terms of temperament, AmStaffs are generally intelligent, confident, and highly loyal to their families. They possess a strong desire to please and can be quite affectionate. While they can make excellent family companions and often get along well with children, early socialization and consistent training are crucial due to their strength and inherent protective instincts. They are adaptable and can thrive in various living situations, including apartments, as long as they receive adequate daily exercise and mental stimulation. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but some individuals may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions.
