Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (long coat). Monty is a handsome yorkie mix who is looking for a home! Monty is with our partner rescue in Louisiana but heading to NJ on 11/1. Monty is described as quiet, calm and well behaved. He is indifferent to the more rambunctious, active dogs and will snuggle with the calmer ones. He doesn't mind being carried around by humans. Monty is dog and kid friendly and we think he will do well with cats too. Monty is fixed, up to date on vaccines and tested negative for heartworm. His adoption fee is $450. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
