Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). JEWEL - GENTLE AND SWEET Age: 5 Years Sex: Female Size: Large Good With Dogs: Yes Good With Cats: Unknown Good With Children: Yes Jewel spent her life as a breeding dog. As is sadly the case, she no longer served a purpose to the breeder and was discarded. Thanks to our good friends at Char-Wills GSD Rescue, Jewel was saved and is now safely with Sedona Shepherd. At first shy and cautious, Jewel has come out of her shell and her personality is starting to shine. Jewel loves to meet new dogs and already has made friends with Jett and Buddy, as well as some young pups. She loves when we rub her ears and she is curious about her surroundings. Although she was never walked on a leash, Jewel quickly learned how to walk by our volunteers side during her adventures around the neighborhood. If you are a gentle spirit and enjoy caring for animals, then Jewel will flourish in your home. Jewel would benefit from the companionship of another dog. We are requiring an adopter have a fenced in yard to adopt Jewel. If you would like to meet foster Jewel, please reach out to us at contactsedonashepherd or fill out an online adoption application. Sedona Shepherd Sanctuary's mission is to rescue adult and senior German Shepherd and Shepherd mixes and find them loving homes. All of our dogs are fully vetted and up to date on all their shots Our adoption area includes New Jersey, Delaware Valley, Manhattan, Southern New York and Eastern Pennsylvania. German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
