Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). JEWEL - GENTLE AND SWEET Age: 5 Years Sex: Female Size: Large Good With Dogs: Yes Good With Cats: Unknown Good With Children: Yes Jewel spent her life as a breeding dog. As is sadly the case, she no longer served a purpose to the breeder and was discarded. Thanks to our good friends at Char-Wills GSD Rescue, Jewel was saved on her way to Sedona Shepherd. Jewel had been quiet but friendly while staying at Char-Wills and just needs some love and attention. Jewel arrived with Sedona Shepherd on October 1st. She has been quickly coming out of her shell and already has a new friend and walking mate in Jett. While Jewel will start out cautious when meeting new people, she is curious and clearly has a gentle and pleasing personality. Jewel likes her ears rubbed and is curious about her surroundings. Within the first week of being in our program, Jewel has begun to take to walking on a leash and we are starting with some obedience training to help build her confidence. If you are a gentle spirit and enjoy caring for animals, then Jewel will flourish in your home. We do not know how she would be in the presence of a cat, but would definitely enjoy the companionship of another dog. If you would like to meet foster Jewel, please reach out to us at contactsedonashepherd or fill out an online adoption application. Sedona Shepherd Sanctuary's mission is to rescue adult and senior German Shepherd and Shepherd mixes and find them loving homes. All of our dogs are fully vetted and up to date on all their shots Our adoption area includes New Jersey, Delaware Valley, Manhattan, Southern New York and Eastern Pennsylvania. We may adopt to Connecticut depending on circumstances. Please visit our website at .sedonashepherd. Sedona

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
