Description

Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Basset Hound. Phoebe is a loving, intelligent girl with a personality as unique as her breed mix. She brings the best of both worlds, the playful, energetic spirit of a Labrador and the laid-back, occasionally stubborn charm of a Basset Hound. Whether she&#39s dancing on her back legs or snoozing in her crate, Phoebe knows how to keep life interesting. Phoebe is housebroken and crate trained, loves walks, knows commands like sit, lay down, shake, and her signature &#34dance&#34! Fantastic with kids and deeply loyal to her people and never turns down a snack, in fact she will make sure to clean up any food that hits the floor. Phoebe takes a moment to warm up to unfamiliar people and is dog selective, but with the proper introductions, structure, and patience, she can be gently reminded of her manners. She thrives in a home that offers consistency, affection, and a little guidance to help her shine. If you&#39re looking for a devoted companion who will keep you laughing, keep your floors crumb-free, and keep your heart full--Phoebe might just be your perfect match. The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $300.00 and that includes their vaccinations, spay or neuter, rabies and microchip. To start the process please visit our website and fill out the adoption application (.dfwrescueme) and from there the foster family can answer any questions and arrange a time to meet. Phoebe is participating in the DFW Rescue Me guest dog program, so ongoing care and custody is provided by her foster, not by DFWRM.

Overview:

The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
